The people at Wait But Why think they know why Gen Y is unhappy. They’re wrong.
I’m not unhappy because I think I’m special, I’m unhappy because the system I was raised into is failing me. I’m unhappy because being an overachiever has not paid off. And it hasn’t paid off because the generations before me were at least a little reckless, a little selfish and lived by the “too big to fail” handbook.
I’m unhappy because as much as I’d like to graduate from university and begin a career, I can’t because budget cuts and a complete disregard for education have left me stranded in a limbo between over-experienced, underpaid and not quite graduated.
